    David has a well-established track record in a number of senior management roles, with over 20 years’ experience in the education sector and across a variety of faculties and departments. David has had a lifelong interest in technology, leadership, innovation and problem solving, and thrives in an environment where he is challenged and purpose.

    David is passionate about utilising his experience to provide effective strategic leadership and direction within his highly successful and academically rigorous faculty. Through providing vocationally relevant qualifications, David is most inspired by seeing students succeed, making a difference in their lives and enhancing their career opportunities.

    Profile

    Bart Vosse’s hospitality career spans 32 years and has seen him owning award-winning hospitality operations and managing commercial outlets with more than 150 full-time employees. Bart’s career has enabled him to work in Holland, Belgium, Italy, France, Israel and Australia.

    Bart has been in the education sector for 10 years and during this time he has held senior lecturing positions, programme coordinator positions and has filled the post of head of department at Waiariki since July 2014.

    As a previous recipient of the Waiariki Excellence in Teaching Award, Bart’s management style is inclusive, strengths-based and, most importantly, student focused.

    Profile

    Deb has won multiple fashion design awards, and is a published author (Fashion Drawing the Easy). She has a strong background in design, textiles and illustration.

    Deb is a proactive leader, who is passionate about education. She was the recipient of an Excellence in Research Award prior to leaving her role at the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic.

    Deb recently organised the Inspire Creative Entrepreneurs Symposium, and the ECO Design Challenge. She is also involved in many community initiatives which provides many opportunities for the community, creative sector, secondary students, and tertiary students throughout the region.

    Profile:

    Prior to joining Waiariki, Dr Aliyu was a senior lecturer at Swinburne University of Technology's Sarawak Campus, and University Utara Malaysia. He has successfully supervised postgraduate and undergraduate students and also reviewed scholarly papers in refereed journals.

    Dr Aliyu’s expertise is in marketing, focusing on customer relationship management, supply chain management, service marketing, customer performance evaluation, technology management and financial economics. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing London, British Academy of Management, Australian & New Zealand Academy of Management.

    Profile:

    Dr Waseem Ahmad holds a PhD degree in the field of Artificial Immune System; taking inspiration from metaphors and processes of the natural immune system to create algorithms that solve complex computational problems. Dr Ahmad has completed his PhD from AUT University in 2012. He also holds a M.Sc. in Intelligent System Engineering from Birmingham University, UK.

    Dr. Waseem Ahmad has worked at AUT University for two years, initially as a post doctoral research fellow and later as full time lecturer in the School of Computer and Mathematical Sciences. Prior to joining Waiariki Institute of Technology, Dr Ahmad was working as a Computing Program Leader at the International College of Auckland. He has number of publications in the field of data mining and machine learning.

    Profile:

    I have been a tutor at Waiariki for 25 years, starting off as a part-time tutor, teaching the National Certificate in Retail. Over the years, as family and work commitments have allowed, I have gained various business qualifications. In 2014 I was one of the first students to complete the new Masters of Management programme at Waiariki Institute of Technology.

    I believe strongly in the concept of life-long learning, I have seen and experienced the benefits of committed students acquiring new knowledge, skills and confidence as they study. It is a great privilege to see students progress in their learning and careers.

    Adele grew up in England and moved to New Zealand in 2000. After arriving in New Zealand she worked with intermediate, and secondary school students as a teacher for more than 10 years. 

    In December 2011 Adele joined Waiariki as a lecturer after completing her Master of Management qualification extramurally. Adele firmly believes in life-long learning and is continually developing plans for her next few educational advancements.

    "I am an outdoor professional, having been involved with whitewater rafting, rock-climbing, mountain biking and other outdoor activities for over 25 years. Having previously worked in the United States, Australia, Japan and Costa Rica, I have spent 15 years solely dedicated to Outdoor Education in New Zealand, and have been the successful owner of Multi-Day Adventures."

    In 2015 Nick completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching, and in 2016 decided to further his studies towards a master's degree. Stepping out of his comfort zone, Nick has presented research at many conferences. This move into the research area has enriched his teaching practice and provided him with an opportunity to share his thoughts and passion around engaging youth.

    Profile:

    Ian returned in 2015 for his second time at Waiariki, having previously been employed as a year two coordinator for the Bachelor of Nursing, and a lecturer on nursing research and child health for four years.

    Originally from Scotland Ian has over 30 years’ experience working within the UK health sector, including six years at the University of Leeds where he was the leader of the Child Health teaching team before moving to New Zealand in 2001. Ian has also held senior positions within Lakes DHB and BOPDHB.

    Ian currently teaches on the HLTH.8001 and HLTH.8002 courses in the Postgraduate Diploma in Management. He also supports master's students with their research projects.

    Jack holds a Masters in Entrepreneurship from the University of Otago which area is of special interest of Jack. New Zealand Business and Entrepreneurship is a major interest in Jacks study and research. While at Victoria University, Jack majored in Māori business as part of his commerce degree. Throughout his academic journey, Jack would compare Māori strategies and skills, to business and organizational theories. Jack has been employed in various tertiary roles and community projects including the New Zealand defense force.

    Bahram started at Waiariki in 2011 as a senior lecturer in computing, and specialises in system analysis and design. He completed a Masters of Computer System Engineering in 2001 from Massey University NZ.

    Bahram has always been active in sport/coaching and community activities. He holds 5th Dan black belt in Taekwondo form World Taekwondo Federation/Kukkiwon Korea, and is a major instructor and examiner for higher belt qualifications, acting on behalf of New Zealand Taekwondo Federation Grand Master Lee.

    Since 1999 Don has contributed significantly towards innovative teaching through applied research at Waiariki.

    In particular, with Don’s recent research to investigate the possibility of improving the quality of teaching using the cognitive aspects of learners by managing limited Working Memory and using Mental Modelling techniques.

    Don has published a number of research papers and presented at international and national conferences. In addition, he has served as a member of the Editorial Board of international conferences. Apart from his professional life, Don involves in organising and supporting social and cultural activities in Rotorua.

    Esther has a strong interest in giving ‘voice’ to vulnerable workers. This has seen her undertake a number of projects which have explored human resources practices from perspectives of migrant care workers and also women of colour in leadership roles. This agenda has also seen her concentrating on the facet of employee well-being.

    Heather started at Waiariki in 2008 as a lecturer in bicultural journalism. When that degree was disestablished she became a communications tutor and transitioned into work mainly with international students in communications classes. She is now studying for a Master’s in Education, Global Studies.

    Akhtar worked as a researcher at John F. Kennedy Institute in Berlin and gained significant teaching experience from teaching at University of Otago (in New Zealand) and Shah Jalal University of Science and Technology (in Bangladesh).

    Prior to joining Toi Ohomai, Dr Susith worked as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka for more than 15 years. Also, he has teaching and research experience as a tutor/research associate at La Trobe University, Melbourne, and as a Tutor at the Waikato Business School, University of Waikato. Further, he worked as a dissertation supervisor of the MBA programme at the Cardiff Metropolitan University, UK offered by the ICBT Campus, Sri Lanka. His doctoral work extends the understanding of CSR performance and disclosure practices and provides empirical insights into how CSR practices are shaped by both local and global forces. He teaches in the areas of management accounting, financial accounting and financial management for undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Dr Susith has reviewed research papers in the area of accounting for international business conferences and he is an editorial member of the American Journal of Theoretical and Applied Business - Science Publishing Group.
