Department of Health Studies

Substantial long-term employment growth is projected for the health sector, as well as changing skill requirements. With global workforce shortages in the health sector and an increase in the popularity of health courses in New Zealand, it's very competitive for those wanting to study towards a career as a health professional.

Meeting the new requirements

To meet these requirements we offer a wide range of study options from level three to level seven across a diverse range of health topics to a variety of learners from the domestic and international market:

  • Aged care
  • Disability
  • Infection prevention control
  • Rehabilitation
  • Health studies

Hands-on practitioners

Academic staff are hands-on practitioners as well as teachers and researchers. They draw on research and industry practice which has strong partnerships with health providers locally and nationally.

Other areas of wellness

Waiariki’s health studies qualifications include areas of education for nurses and non-nurses who have an interest in other dimensions of wellness. This could include infection prevention and control, health and rehabilitation, and health education.
