Welcome from the Waiariki Chief Executive
Kia ora tātou
Waiariki Institute of Technology is a leading Institute of Technology with campuses throughout the Waiariki rohe in Rotorua, Whakatane, Taupo, Tokoroa and Tauranga. We are committed to providing accessible vocational and professional education and to providing our students with the knowledge, skills and capabilities needed for work and future study.
As a leading Institute of Technology that is distinctly bicultural we offer a wide range of programmes from certificates and diplomas to postgraduate degrees and learning opportunities that are relevant to both our region and its residents. We are committed to working in partnership to raise and increase aspiration and achievement. Waiariki has established strong links with iwi, hapu, business and wider communities both in New Zealand and internationally. Such associations are important in enabling the institution to provide applied vocational and relevant learning and programmes that meet the needs of individuals, communities and regions. Working with stakeholders is an important part of our work through consultancy and applied research and tailored programmes to meet the needs of employers and industry. We are very proud to have won awards from the Maori Language Commission and Export BOP New Zealand during the last 12 months. Rotorua and the Waiariki rohe offer so many opportunities, both for New Zealand students and those from overseas and Waiariki plays an important role in supporting the region's future development and in creating and retaining the talent needed for individual and economic and social success.
Waiariki has shown outstanding success in recent years in growing the institution and increasing the achievement levels of students. Waiariki prides itself on providing high levels of student support as we know that many first-time tertiary students, or even adults, are returning to study after a long time away. Some may need additional support to get started or to keep studying throughout each term in order to achieve their goals.
This atmosphere of vibrancy, caring and manaakitanga at Waiariki touches all of us, from the staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the institute functioning, to the exceptional lecturers and school personnel whose dedication to improving our students' lives is unwavering.
This whakatauki guides our institution.
Whaia te iti kahurangi, ki te tūohu koe, me he maunga teitei.
'Pursue excellence, if you bow your head, let it be to a lofty mountain
