Journal of Best Practice in Applied and Māori/Indigenous Vocational Education

Introduction
The production of He Kupu Whakataki – Journal of Best Practice in Applied and Māori/Indigenous Vocational Education, is our response to the lack of available information from an indigenous perspective on important issues facing our region and nation. These issues include   indigenous labour market; policy development and implementation; workplace practice and trends; the utilisation and protection of indigenous assets; vocational education, training and research; and the transfer of indigenous knowledge. The Journal Editors and other stakeholders, therefore, will seek to encourage and disseminate research and scholarship in vocational issues from an indigenous perspective. We hope to provide a forum for established as well as emerging researchers and commentators.
Four Tertiary Education Institutes (TEIs) came together to form a collaboration that promotes and publishes this Journal of Best practice:
  • Tairāwhiti Polytechnic which is located in Gisborne on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island – a Polytechnic which prides itself on being whānau (family) oriented and putting the students first.
  • Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi located east of Rotorua, intends to be a quality provider of Māori programmes.
  • Northland Polytechnic located in Whangarei in the far north of the North Island remains the only Northland-based TEI that provides programmes from foundation to degree level, and
  • Waiariki Institute of Technology – Whare Takiūra.

Papers submitted for the Journal will undergo a peer-review process for which an Editorial Board comprising members from partner institutions and industry, has been established.
