Maintain viability by effectively rationalising and expanding the financial base and by creating a transparent and responsive structure within which the core activities of education and training will continue to develop. GOAL 10
Increase the productive capability of the region

Actions

  • Offer qualifications that reflect the significant employment and added value sectors in the region.
  • Develop qualifications at levels 5-7 that align with regional needs.
  • Respond to new industry developments, trends and opportunities.
  • Proactively source or develop value added solutions to satisfy technical and vocational needs.
  • Ensure all level 1-3 qualifications have a pathway to higher learning and increase the number of level five to seven qualifications underpinned by applied research.

GOAL11
Increase the level of provision to satisfy core and niche demand for skills and knowledge across the four core market segments.

Actions

  • Engage in collaborative provision, in communities, iwi and industries across the region and nationally.
  • Grow Waiariki’s four core business areas - school leavers, second chance full time learners, part time learners and international students.
  • Increase income achieved through international education by choosing focused partnerships with quality organisations in a balanced range of countries that allow student articulation, staff and student exchanges.
  • Encourage and maximise leverage of shared investment in educational services and resources.
  • Ensure content of TVET qualifications captures relevant technologies from across the world placing New Zealand at the leading edge of technology innovation and application.

GOAL 12
Produce a surplus for reinvestment by operating in a financially prudent, viable and sustainable manner.

Actions:

  • Gain efficiencies in provision through focus on key drivers
  • Rationalise qualifications and courses through portfolio review and alignment.
  • Expand Waiariki’s financial base of non-government funding income sources.
  • Prioritise applications for targeted public and industry funding opportunities.
  • Implement a Capital Asset Management System (CAM), Human Resource Information System (HRIS), Financial Investment Based Management system (FIBS) and Student Management System (SMS) as per ITP benchmarking projects.
