Welcome from the Waiariki Chief Executive (acting)

Kia ora tatou. Congratulations for becoming a Waiariki Institute of Technology student, and thank you for choosing us.

As a Waiariki student, your education is our first priority. YOUR STORY BEGINS HERE and during your time with us, we want you to grow, to learn and to develop. We make this happen by employing the very best staff, investing in our classrooms, workshops and laboratories and by creating a student environment that is safe and yet very challenging. Ultimately we want you to succeed.

As a community college, Waiariki cares about you, we care about your whanau and we care about the wealth and health of the community. Education of the kind that we offer opens up all sorts of possibilities for individuals to earn more money, and to better people. I sincerely hope that we have that effect on you.

Your time as an adult student will be very different from your time at school, and if between us, we get things right, it will change your possibilities forever. Please do not underestimate the power of the journey you are embarking on.

We live in a wonderful part of New Zealand - the most beautiful country in the world. Our Centre of Excellence in Environmental Sustainability has been set up specifically with this in mind. Waiariki wants to role model to the world how to care for the environment (with a particular focus on lake/water quality and geothermal energy). From 2012 onwards as a student you should start to see and feel real evidence of this leadership when you look around the campus, and across the community.

While you are studying your qualification with us, you will also share your educational experience with a broad range of students from across the world, giving you the added opportunity of graduating from Waiariki with real skills for a real job and having b come a global citizen.

On behalf of all Waiariki staff, I wish you all the best with your studies and for this exciting stage of your life.

Kind regards
John Snook
