Waiariki proudly supports the Rotorua Chamber of Commerce and the Eastern Bay of Plenty Chamber of Commerce in Whakatane. These New Zealand Chamber of Commerce affiliates are nationally recognised promoters of business and commerce in the region.

Waiariki and the Chambers work together to develop partnerships with business and industry, which in turn promotes internships and work experience for Waiariki students, and research opportunities for students and staff.

Waiariki also works with the chambers and their members to develop business training provision and upskilling opportunities for their staff, and is recognised as the first choice in tertiary training provision by the chambers.

Networking

Waiariki hosts a Rotorua Chamber of Commerce Business After Five (BA5) networking function annually, providing Waiariki with the opportunity to engage with Chamber members and showcase student achievement and success, update members on programmes of study, research opportunities, facilities and services.

The Eastern BOP Chamber has invited Waiariki to lead two of the “Legends in Business” Breakfast Sessions in 2016, inviting key staff and students in Business, Hospitality, Tourism and Trades to connect with members in these industry sectors. The idea behind this initiative is to investigate and scope opportunities for Waiariki students to gain work experience, internships and research with Chamber members.

Waiariki and Eastern BOP Chamber are keen to investigate and scope a revitalisation retail strategy for Whakatane and also develop a tourism plan strategy with the aim of Waiariki then delivering tourism programmes in the Eastern BOP.

Sponsorship

Waiariki sponsors a number of events and awards as follows:

Waiariki provides them with the opportunity to upskill to postgraduate and masters qualifications locally.
