International Student Application Checklist & Requirements

To process an international student application in a timely manner, the following information must be supplied.

Documents required to complete an international student application

Applications for study at any level

  • All sections in the application form should be completed in full
  • A copy of your passport or other identity document (i.e., birth certificate, or national identity card)
  • A copy of your high school certificates or diplomas, and
  • IELTS or TOEFL results, or other evidence of English language proficiency.
  • NOTE: ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE VERIFIED/CERTIFIED

Additional documents required for different level of study

Applications for study at level 7 (degree, graduate diploma)

  • Official/provisional certificate and all transcripts as evidence you have completed a degree or 3 year diploma

Applications for study at level 8 (postgraduate)

  • Official/provisional certificate and all transcripts as evidence you have completed a degree or 3 year diploma in 1st or 2nd division
  • IELTS results, 6.5 overall with no score lower than 6 or other evidence of English language proficiency
  • 400 word statement of purpose
  • Copy of your current curriculum vitae (C.V.), and
  • Evidence of 3 years work experience (state this in your C.V.)

Applications for study at level 9 (master's)

  • Official/provisional certificate and all transcripts proving the student has completed a degree or 3 year diploma in 1st or 2nd division
  • IELTS results, 6.5 overall with no score lower than 6 or other evidence of English language proficiency
    NOTE: IELTS score of at least 7.0 with no band score lower than 7.0 is required for the Masters of Applied Professional Studies Vulnerable Peoples, and Infection Prevention and Control endorsements.
  • 400 word statement of purpose
  • Copy of your current curriculum vitae (C.V.)
  • Evidence of 3 years work experience (state this in your C.V.)
  • Evidence of at least 1 year of work experience in a managerial position (state this in your C.V.), and
  • 2 professional references

What is a verified/certified copy of a document?

A verified/certified copy is a photocopy of your original document, signed as being a true and accurate copy.

To be considered a verified copy it must have:

  • The words "original sighted";
  • Name and signature of person sighting the original document;
  • Date original sighted; and
  • Institution/organisation stamp or handwritten institution/organisation name.

The following positions are approved to verify/certify documentation:

  • Notary Public
  • Authorised Education Agent
  • New Zealand Consulate or Embassy
