Waiariki Institute of Technology has two fully accredited accommodation options for international students: Waiariki House and Homestay accommodation with a New Zealand family.

Waiariki House
Hostel Accommodation

Waiariki House is hostel accommodation conveniently located in the centre of Rotorua city. It takes just minutes to walk to public transport, the famous Polynesian Spa, beautiful Lake Rotorua, Government Gardens, the Blue Baths, restaurants, cafés and shopping areas.

Waiariki House has single and twin rooms available. All rooms have study desks, wardrobes, heaters and beds with fresh linen provided weekly. Cleaned daily, Waiariki House offers safe, clean, relaxed and friendly accommodation in a happy community.

Homestay Accommodation
With a New Zealand Family

Homestay accommodation is a unique way of familiarising yourself with your new culture. A family boarding situation, homestay accommodation takes you in to the home of a New Zealand family. All families have undergone house inspections, interviews and have been policed cleared.

Positive aspects of homestay:

Meals provided - 3 meals a day, 7 days a week
Laundry service available or you can choose to do your own
Fully furnished single room with linen provided
Be part of a New Zealand family
Participating in family activities
Assistance in settling into a new country
Can provide transport
Assistance in improving your English skills
$180 per week

Your Requirement

It is a requirement under the law of New Zealand that Waiariki maintains current records of the accommodation of all students studying at the institute.

It is your responsibility to advise the International Centre immediately if you change your accommodation address and contact numbers.

Forms are available from the International Centre for this purpose.

Failure to advise the International Centre of changes to your contact details may place your continuation as a student in jeopardy.

Homestay Accommodation

Our families are screened to ensure your personal preferences are taken into consideration when placing you.

We talk to homestay families regularly to monitor your stay.

General Information

All homestay and hostel contracts are between the provider of accommodation and student.

Students will pay direct to the accommodation provider. Students will be invoiced for the first four weeks of homestay accommodation. After four weeks the student and homestay provider must make necessary arrangements for payment of board.

A minimum of two weeks notice to vacate must be given for either homestay provider or resident hostel manager if you wish to move out of your accommodation.

We do the best we can to meet your accommodation preferences. For students looking for rental accommodation, our international staff are available to help you find suitable rental accommodation.
