Waiariki Schools

Waiariki Institute of Technology has five schools of study, one sports academy and one wānanga, each offering degrees, diplomas and certificates in their respective subject areas.

Academy of Sport
Waiariki Academy of SportSport science and medicine support is managed by the Academy of Sport staff. Services to athletes include individual programme planning, testing, and prescription in areas such as exercise physiology, biomechanics, and physical training and conditioning. Academy staff work with the athletes, their individual coaches, and their mentors to provide complete support through training and competition.

The Waiariki region offers ideal training environments in numerous sports. Besides the major sports, the academy focuses on those for which this region is so well known, including mountain biking, kayaking and golf.

School of Business and Tourism / Te Kura Taki
School of Business and TourismOur qualifications include Business Management degrees, Project Management Courses, Business Administration and Tourism Training, ranging from entry level right through to diploma and degree level

School of Computing, Technology and Communications / Te Kura Pārongo
School of Computing Technology and CommunicationsThe School of Computing, Technology and Communications provides certificate to degree courses in all areas of computing and technology.  These are also applied in the areas of journalism, art and design for a truly active and interactive environment for students and lecturers. 

If you are an entry level learner the National Certificate in Computing Level 2 is free to study and teaches you how to drive a computer then enrol on the International Computer Drivers’ Licence, which is also free.

You can work your way up through the schools qualifications, or enter at any stage and study all the way up to a degree in computing. The school provides tailored workspaces for the courses it offers and its lecturers are specialists in their fields.

School of Forestry and Primary Industries / Te Kura Takawāō
School of Forestry Wood Processing and Biotechnology The forestry industry has a wide range of career options and possibilities, and our forestry school is your best place to start.

Waiariki School of Forestry and Primary Industries is equipped to train people for careers in forestry and wood manufacturing in four distinct areas. 

From primary industry roles  – such as Silviculture and Practical Logging, on to processing and manufacturing – Saw Doctors and Timber Machinists, all the way through to Forest Managers and Harvest Planning.

School of Nursing and Health Studies
School of Nursing and Health Studies  The School of Nursing and Health Studies offers a range of qualifications in nursing, health and complimentary medicine.

Te Wananga a Ihenga
School of Maori Development and HumanitiesIn line with the Waiariki vision, Te Wānanga a Ihenga is committed to providing quality education and vocationally responsive pathways in Māori development, languages, foundation studies, social sciences and education.

The wānanga offers a range of study options which include two bachelor’s degrees, a Level 7 Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood Education), plus Level 4 and 5 certificates.

Waiariki Campuses

Our main campus is in Rotorua Regional campuses exist in Taupo, Tokoroa and Whakatane.

Mokoia Campus - Rotorua
The campus is low-rise and set in clean, green and safe rural surroundings only five minutes from Rotorua's city centre. A regular public bus service runs from the campus to the city.mokoia

The Taupo campus is located just minutes from the town centre. There is plenty of free parking for commuters, and the campus is on a regular bus route.

Whakatane Campus
The Whakatane campus is located about 6kms from the central business district, and offers plenty of free on-campus parking and is on a regular bus route.

Waiariki Central, conveniently located in Whakatane’s town centre, offers computing courses and walk-in access to computers for Waiariki students. Helpful staff can provide guidance with computing course work.
