Health Centre

Located: M Block (next to WITSA)
Hours: Monday-Friday 8.30am-4.00pm (reduced services during term breaks)

What free and confidential services do we provide?

  • Treatment and advice for injuries including wound care
  • No surcharge for ACC visits
  • Disability support services – for any student with a disability.  Support could include mobility (ensuring easy access around campus), technical support (dictaphones, software), note taker/reader writer for assessments, learning support referral

  • Assessment and support for minor illness
  • Health screening including
    • Blood pressure monitoring
    • Weight, hearing, vision and blood sugar tests
  • Sexual health services including
    • Contraception
    • emergency contraception pill (ECP)
    • Pregnancy tests
    • STI screening
    • Cervical screening
    • Free condoms
  • Health monitoring and support for medical disabilities (eg. diabetes, hypertension, asthma, epilepsy etc)
  • Smoking cessation support
  • Regular doctor clinics held, see the Occupational Health Nurse for an appointment
  • Counselling services.  Home, work and study can create real challenges, but talking it over can help turn big hurdles into manageable steps. Don't wait until problems get on top of you, make an appointment to see our counsellor

Who can use the Waiariki Health Services?

  • All students can access health and disability services
  • All students can see our campus doctor, note, there is a small charge for international students
  • Counselling service available free to all students

What else do I need to know?

  • It is recommended that students and staff new to Rotorua register with a local GP
  • Students studying Forestry, Agriculture, Horticulture and Automotive Engineering need to be up to date with adult tetanus vaccinations
  • Students under 18 years need to register with a dentist for free dental care

Smoke-Free Environment Policy

Waiariki Institute of Technology shall:

  • Promote the health and well-being of people on all Waiariki campuses, and sites of education and training delivery;
  • Provide protection from tobacco smoke, except in the areas designated for smoking which will be identified and sign-posted on all campuses; and
  • Meet the requirements of the Smoke-Free Environments Act 1990.

Complaints relating to smoking on campus are to be lodged as per the appropriate Waiariki complaints procedure. Students shall contact the Complaints Officer; staff shall contact Human Resources
