Facilities

Waiariki Institute of Technology offers a range of facilities available to students and staff. This includes: computers, copy centre, hair cuts, automotive workshop, parking, cafe and more. read more>>

Automotive Workshop

Location: Mokoia Campus, B Block
Description: Having car problems or need a Warrant of Fitness? Waiariki's automotive workshop guarantees all work and is competitively priced. Please call ahead to schedule an appointment.

Campus Cafes

DELIMARCHÉ CAFÉstudent cafe
Location: Mokoia Campus, N Block, Ground Floor
Description: Hungry? Thirsty? In need of caffeine? Grab breakfast, lunch or a snack. A delicious variety of fresh food and drinks, including healthy food options and espresso coffees, all at reasonable prices. Plenty of comfy indoor and shaded outdoor seating, too. Cash and EFTPOS accepted.

Location: Mokoia Campus, C Block, Ground Floor
Description: Start your day (or keep it going!) with great espresso coffees from the Green Bean.

Computer Suites

Each Waiariki campus has computer labs for student use to access email, internet and intranet. Using the computers at Waiariki is a privilege and all users are obliged to use this tool in a responsible, effective and lawful manner; misuse is considered a serious offense. Please review the "Computer Access and Usage, eCampus, and Services" and "Student Access and Use of Computers Procedure" sections in your Student Diary.

Wireless computer access (Wi-Fi) is available for personal laptops and smart phones on Mokoia Campus. To enable your device to pick up Wi-Fi, select the "Waiariki" connection and then log in with your log-in details.

To access Waiariki's computer network, email, eCampus, printing and photocopying services, and the IT Helpdesk, your fees must be paid in full. You will use your Waiariki student ID to create your unique username and password.

Hair Salons

Location: All campuses
Description: Get a perm, a haircut or colour. Each Waiariki campus runs a full-service hair salon with affordable prices. Appointments required

Hairspraystudent operated hair salon
Location: Rotorua CBD, 1217 Eruera Street
Description: Hairspray is our hairdressing training salon. The fullservice salon is run by our Level 4 students and services are provided at affordable prices. Appointments required.

Parking

Free parking is available on all Waiariki campuses (except Tokoroa) for all students and staff. Parking for people with disabilities (you must display your mobility card) is available in designated areas. Visitor parking is also available (ask at reception)

Plant Nursery

The plant nursery supports our horticulture students’ training.  Plants including vegetable punnets, herbs and a selection of flowering plants, shrubs, ground cover and climbers are available to purchase at competitive prices. 

The nursery hours of opening vary depending on availability of stock and hours are posted at the nursery.

Restaurant

The Kaiwhata Restaurant is located in the heart of Mokoia Campus and opens throughout the year for lunch and dinner service.  Delicious, affordable meals and ‘mocktails’ are created by our student chefs-in-training and served by hospitality students. EFTPOS available.

Waiariki Community Recreation Centre

Location: Mokoia Campus, southeast end of campus near Mokoia Drive
Description: Let's face it, study can leave you drained, tired and sometimes stressed. Increasing your heart rate, even for just 20 minutes, has been proven to elevate your mood, give you MORE energy and alleviate stress. As a member of the Waiariki Community Recreation Centre – Te Putahi Hakinakina o Waiariki you can pop in for a quick weights session, bike ride, squash game and more. Membership fees are super affordable and include access to sports leagues, fitness classes and exercise groups.

Waiariki provides a number of support services to students including the Student Learning Centre, Health and Counselling and WITSA.

Buddy Programme

Location: Mokoia Campus, International Centre, A Block Extension

New Zealand students: want to make a new friend and learn about another country while helping an international student settle into life in Rotorua?
International students: want to share your culture with a Kiwi student while you gain confidence in your new surroundings?
Through the Buddy Programme, an international student is partnered with a domestic student to meet once a week for two hours for one-on-one exchange and support during the term. It's a win-win for everyone! If you are interested in participating in this fun and rewarding programme, contact

Buses

Description: Your Waiariki student ID includes a computer-chipped embedded Smartcard which provides free access to Cityride Rotorua bus routes.

Cashier + Fees

Location: Mokoia Campus, I Block, Ground Floor (use entrance at front of building)
Description: Pay your course fees here. The cashier accepts cash, EFTPOS, cheques and major credit cards. (For information on student loans from StudyLink, see "Student Loans and Allowances")
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8am – 3.30pm

ATM
Location: Mokoia Campus, N Block, Second Floor (facing E Block)
Description: If you need cash, visit the BNZ ATM just outside the main entrance to N Block. Bank fees may apply.

Disability Support

Location: Mokoia Campus, Health Centre, M Block (next to WITSA)
Description: The disability support team is here for students who identify as having a disability or impairment such as with vision, hearing, physical mobility, specific learning disability and/or learning difficulty. A range of assistive equipment can be borrowed and the friendly team can provide one-onone assistance for exams and assessments.
Interview and enrolment assistance is also available.

Description: Free money!! That's right, each year thousands of dollars in scholarships and grants are on offer, so get in quick and grab some money today to assist with your study expenses. Scholarships opportunities are listed on our website, but there are many more available. Most of them are limited and conditions apply, so be sure to apply as early as possible to increase your chances of being awarded. If you need assistance finding and applying for scholarships and grants, see the friendly staff in the library.

Schools and Community Liaisons

Waiariki has a liaison team so that secondary schools and the community can become aware of the wide range of courses and facilities available at Waiariki.

Waiariki Institute of Technology Student Association (WITSA)

Location: Mokoia Campus, M Block, WITSA (look for the bright green roof)
Description: Become a member today! See the WITSA staff to sign up and begin enjoying the services your membership provides. Waiariki Institute of Technology Students' Association, a.k.a. WITSA, Te Runanga Tauira o Waiariki, provides many services to its members, such as:

• Advocacy and complaints facilitation • Food bank • Budget advice service
• Accommodation facilitation • Textbook requirements, through UBS • Student van
• Aranui Room and student common rooms

WITSA shop: Vodafone and Telecom top ups, international calling cards, nursing uniforms, fax service, stationery items, laminating, stamps and more.

Copy Centre

The Copy Centre in I Block, Mokoia Campus, provides photocopying, binding and laminating services for a small cost.  Visit the Copy Centre Team in Room I026 for all your copying and binding needs.  Regional campuses also have photocopying facilities.

IT Helpdesk (CS@W)

Waiariki's IT Helpdesk can assist with the following:
• Wireless configuration to use our free wireless internet (Wi-Fi) connection
• Login and password issues

All Waiariki students have access to:

Childcare Centre

Nga Tamariki O Te Waiariki Educare Centre is a privately owned operation situated next to Mokoia Campus.  They offer reasonable rates and subsides may be available for full-time and casual places.  There are two centres, one of which has a bicultural vision and the other is a Te Reo Maori Centre.

Other Assistance

MyStudyLink

MyStudyLink is a secure online tool that will allow students to view and update some of their details online at any time they choose. By using MyStudyLink students can:

  • Check out what financial assistance they may be able to get
  • Apply for their student finances
  • Check the status of their applications for Student Allowance and Student Loan
  • View and update their personal details
  • Check their Student Loan balance, change the amount of their living cost payments and apply for their course-related costs
  • view details of their next payment and any previous transactions
  • View their mail online.

MyStudylink is a secure online tool available via the StudyLink website.
Avoid delays by applying early for financing, even if you are unsure of your study details!
