Course Aim

Gain introductory knowledge of cosmetology, and develop skills in make-up selection and application. Learn an overview of body chemistry, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, cosmetics and toiletries, figure, face and skin analysis, client care and consultation, and advising clients on make-up products, application and after-care.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. describe and explain the structure and systems of the human body using writing and verbal skills;
  2. demonstrate knowledge of body chemistry and nutrition in relation to basic beauty services using writing and verbal skills;
  3. demonstrate knowledge of cosmetic and toiletry products, including reading and interpreting manufacturers’ instructions;
  4. demonstrate awareness of client care including sensitivity to personal and cultural needs;
  5. understand and perform basic face and skin analysis;
  6. undertake client consultation for make-up services and provide clear recommendations to clients;
  7. select and apply make-up products using a range of techniques, tools and equipment, and safe working practices;
  8. provide advice and instruction to clients on make-up products, application and after-care using effective communication skills; and
  9. record and maintain client details for make-up services.
