Course Aim

This course aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills to process and document financial information and transactions for a business entity. Students will gain experience in using manual and computerised accounting systems and preparing and maintaining records.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. perform calculations for financial transactions;
  2. identify and describe internal control procedures for financial transactions;
  3. define accounts receivable/accounts payable and document cash and credit transactions, describing their purpose;
  4. operate a computerised accounts receivable/accounts payable system;
  5. operate a petty cash system; and prepare a bank reconciliation.
