Course Aim

Students will investigate the concepts of governance and management alongside the impact these roles have on health care and health outcomes within the health care sector. Also investigated are Māori and Treaty of Waitangi perspectives and approaches to governance within the context of health. Students will focus on optimising the impact of the roles examined to improve health care outcomes.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. compare the concepts of governance and management in health care;
  2. critically analyse governance and management; principles, structures and frameworks;
  3. review the origins and evolution of clinical governance;
  4. review Māori and Treaty of Waitangi frameworks and perspectives of governance;
  5. critically analyse the relationship and role between governance performance and health outcomes;
