Course Aim

The aim of this course is to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to understand and apply a range of theoretical and practical carpentry skills to install exterior wall cladding systems and exterior joinery in a safe and professional manner.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Evaluate and compare the types and methods of installation for exterior wall cladding systems, and demonstrate knowledge of weather tightness requirements.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of exterior joinery installation and weather tightness requirements.
  3. Read and interpret plans, working drawings and specifications to calculate quantities and costs, and prepare an order for a range of exterior wall claddings.
  4. Install building wrap, a cavity system, exterior wall claddings, joinery and flashings in accordance with NZS:3604 and the NZBC E2 External Moisture codes.
