Course Aim

The aim of this course is to provide the knowledge and skills needed to install, configure, manage and maintain single-user and multi-user operating systems.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Discuss the functions and features of contemporary operating systems
  2. Install and configure operating systems
  3. Discuss and use file systems
  4. Use operating system commands in command line mode
  5. Install and use X Windows
  6. Add, remove and maintain users on a system
  7. Write simple shell scripts
  8. Backup and restore a system
  9. Describe the use of the commands used in this course
