This course will extend students' theoretical and practical knowledge of early childhood curricula in the arts. Students will develop confidence and competence in planning integrated art curriculum experiences for infants, toddlers and young children.
On successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify and discuss strategies for holistic learning experiences for infants, toddlers and young children that uphold the principles of Te Whāriki in the arts.
- Identify and reflect on theories and philosophies related to infants, toddlers and young children’s learning in the arts.
- Discuss bicultural environments in relation to Māori arts.
- Plan for effective ways of working with infants, toddlers and young children in the arts to develop children’s interest and curiosity.
