Programme aim

This two-year programme will allow you to fast-track your career and enhance employment opportunities for supervisory positions within the horticulture industry.

Gain the knowledge and skills to assist with a range of core tasks relevant to the horticulture industry, including fruit production operations. You will be able to work safely and effectively under limited supervision with responsibility for work outcomes.

This programme suits students who:

  • have excellent communication skills
  • have strong mathematical ability
  • are physically fit
  • are willing to work in a variety of conditions such as cold, hot, damp, indoors, outdoors, etc.
  • can be flexible where they live as not all jobs will be based in Rotorua
  • have demonstrable interest in plants/horticulture

The programme develops strong computer, technology, research and report-writing skills to give graduates the skills required for employment.

  • NZ2678 New Zealand Certificate in Horticulture (Level 3), Fruit Production strand
  • WR3121 National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Coordination) (Level 4)

When you successfully finish this programme of study (horticulture Safety and Practice), you will also earn all of the listed included qualifications.

Entry criteria

Admission and entry requirements for this qualification are in accordance with the academic regulations, including:

  • An IELTS score of 5.0 with no band score lower than 5.5, or a relevant English Proficiency Outcome
  • Applicants must be physically able to undertake the practical components of the programme.
  • Applicants may be required to show evidence of language competency to ensure health and safety requirements of the practical work can be met.
