Course Aim

Students will learn to apply small business management principles associated with planning and running a sports event. They will investigate a target market, create a marketing strategy, and employ management strategies that consider event planning risks and requirements. Students will engage in the implementation and evaluation of a sports focused event.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. develop a marketing plan based on target market investigation;
  2. explain and follow the steps involved in developing a small business plan for running a simple sports event;
  3. explore legal, ethical, environmental, sustainability and cultural event planning considerations;
  4. define the role of health and safety; know how to eliminate, isolate or minimise hazards and risk associated with a conducting a modest sports event; and
  5. contribute to the planning, implementation and evaluation of a sports focused event
