Students will develop introductory knowledge and skills in sports coaching, the coaching environment, factors that influence exercise and training programmes and planning basic coaching sessions.
On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- demonstrate and apply knowledge of the coaching environment, and the role and responsibilities of the coach using reading, writing and practical skills
- describe the characteristics and needs of beginner, intermediate and advanced sport participants, including injury prevention and management, using writing skills
- plan beginner level coaching sessions to meet sport participants’ needs and achieve session objectives
