Course Aim

The aim of this course is to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to understand the operation of 2- and 4-stroke petrol and diesel engines, disassemble and reassemble engines, assess the mechanical condition of engines, and carry out engine tuning.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Explain the operation of a 2- and 4-stroke petrol and diesel engine.
  2. Carry out basic tuning on a 4-stroke petrol engine.
  3. Disassemble and reassemble a four cylinder, 4-stroke engine to a running state.
  4. Assess the mechanical condition of an engine and carry out major engine tuning.
