Course Aim

Introduction to the roles, occupations, services and salon practices within the beauty therapy field and related industries. Gain skills and knowledge in employment rights and responsibilities, portraying a professional image through personal presentation and maintaining a healthy, safe and secure salon environment for beauty therapists and clients.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. demonstrate knowledge of the key characteristics of and working practices associated with beauty related industries using written and verbal skills;
  2. understand and explain the requirements of relevant health and safety legislation and regulations, including employer and employee responsibilities using written and verbal skills;
  3. use the correct posture and deportment to minimise risk of harm or injury while providing beauty services, and handling tools and equipment;
  4. read and interpret manufacturers’ instructions when using salon products, tools and equipment;
  5. identify and deal with hazards in the salon workplace, and complete hazard recording and reporting requirements;
  6. respond to emergencies within a commercial salon environment, including following specified emergency evacuation and salon security procedures; and
  7. demonstrate and maintain a professional level of personal presentation, hygiene and conduct.
