Course Aim

Develop knowledge and skills to develop effective working relationships with colleagues within the salon environment, and contribute to the operational efficiency, effectiveness and profitability of a salon or spa business. Gain experience in the roles and responsibilities of team members in a salon, team dynamics and team work, monitoring and maintaining healthy and safety practice, promoting and selling products and services to clients, and salon management and operations.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. demonstrate knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of team members in a salon;
  2. interact and establish effective working relationships with colleagues;
  3. communicate effectively with colleagues and clients;
  4. recognise team dynamics and behaviours, and implement strategies to resolve conflict and foster a supportive team environment;
  5. carry out, record and report risk assessments in the salon workplace, and determine necessary actions to eliminate or minimise risks;
  6. monitor and support the work of others in a salon to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements;
  7. use effective selling and communication techniques to identify selling opportunities, and introduce salon products and services to clients;
  8. evaluate the effectiveness of selling techniques and promotional activity in generating product and service sales; and
  9. demonstrate knowledge of salon management and operational requirements.
