The aim of this course is to provide students with introductory knowledge and skills in cutting hair using basic techniques. Students will work on manikins throughout the course to develop capability in the safe use of cutting tools and equipment, sectioning hair, maintaining tension and cutting hair into one‑length and layered styles.
On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify and describe foundation haircuts including cutting techniques and angles used and their effects on hair design.
- Explain the factors that should be considered when cutting hair including hair and scalp analysis, and different hair textures, lengths and types.
- Safely select, use and maintain tools and equipment for performing hair cutting.
- Demonstrate cutting techniques and effects, including sectioning, projecting and cross-checking by following a pre-cut guideline.
