Students will gain fundamental knowledge of healthcare epidemiology in order to appreciate the role of surveillance systems, statistical data, and research studies in preventing, tracing and managing healthcare associated infection.
- Demonstrate knowledge of healthcare epidemiology and statistics relevant to the practice of infection control.
- Critically analyse the requirements of a surveillance programme and its value in monitoring and preventing healthcare associated infection.
- Use epidemiological principles and process to critically analyse healthcare epidemiology research findings; discuss outbreaks of infection; and present data.
