Course AimStudents will develop an in-depth understanding of the elements of contemporary music genres including melody, harmony, rhythm and instrumentation, enabling them to translate this knowledge into a practical song writing, improvisation, compositional and performance context.
On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- analyse musical elements of contemporary music genres including rhythm, harmony, melody, lyrical content, chord progression, structure and instrumentation;
- contrast contemporary music genres and artists, including historical and cultural influences;
- compose and perform music in contemporary music genres.
