Course Aim

This course aims to assist students to develop the academic writing skills necessary for study at diploma and degree level.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Structure written material confidently
  2. Use a formal writing style appropriate for academic purposes
  3. Read and interpret essay questions correctly
  4. Demonstrate understanding of the types of assignments used in the tertiary environment
  5. Demonstrate understanding of the essay and report writing process
  6. Express and justify a point of view, using literature to support the argument
  7. Demonstrate awareness of copyright law, plagiarism and required referencing conventions
  8. Demonstrate the ability to research a topic for an assignment
