Nursing & Health Careers

Nursing and Health Careers banner image Registered nurses (RNs) assess, treat and care for patients in hospitals, primary health organisations such as doctors’ practices and family planning clinics, residential care facilities, Māori health providers, private providers, prisons and in patients’ homes.

According to CareersNZ, although the number of RNs has increased, there are still too few experienced RNs to fill all the vacancies in specialist areas such as aged care, critical care and emergency, medical and perioperative. These areas are now on Immigration New Zealand’s longterm shortage list and the government is actively encouraging skilled and experienced nurses from overseas to work in New Zealand.

Health services management, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and many other healthcare career areas also have good outlooks according to CareersNZ.
